I've been using Digital Performer as my primary DAW for years. For this project I also used Mackie's Tracktion 2 software for tracking some of the songs. The fan noise from the equipment in my studio was being picked up by my microphones so I decided to track my acoustic guitars and hand percussion in a quieter and better sounding room. I bought a Mackie ONYX 400F recording interface and installed the accompanying Tracktion 2 software on my wife's iMac G5 computer. Tracktion 2 has a much simpler interface than Digital Performer and while it isn't nearly as powerful, I found it convenient for laying down basic tracks. The mics sounded great through the ONYX 400F, and as long as the phone didn't ring or someone didn't come screaming down our road on a Harley our family room was great to record in. I then imported the audio tracks into Digital Performer for editing, overdubs and mixing.
